I have read a lot of the commentary concerning the choosing of Carlos Mencia to ride with Orpheus this year.

I ride Orpheus and would like to point out a few things.

Carlos Mencia is not the ONLY celebrity rider this year. Jim Belushi, Bryan Batt and several other people will also be riding.
If you boycott the parade, you are missing out on a great parade, but if seeing Mencia (who will pass by your viewing area of choice in less than a minute) causes you that much distress, by all means stay home.

The choice to have Carlos Mencia ride this year was made at the upper levels of the krewe, not by the entire membership.

If your choice of protest is to throw things at Mencia during the parade, keep this in mind. It is illegal to throw back at the floats and if caught you risk arrest. You also risk hitting other people rather than you intended target.
By all means make yourself heard through letters, etc., but think twice before resorting to violence.
